The PADI Instructor
Development Course:
Becoming a professional dive educator
The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is the heart
of the PADI Instructor training process. During the IDC, you'll apply your diving skills
and knowledge to learning to teach the PADI System in the classroom, confined water andwater. The course is taught on site at our PADI 5-Star Instructor Development Center
and may be completed with either the standard eight-day curriculum or an extended period.
Each element of the course is supported by the Instructor Candidate Workbook and
other educational materials (see required materials list below), including the latest PADI
videos.
IDC topics include: teaching the PADIWater Diver
course; continiung education courses; Discover experiences; the Recreational Diver
Planner; lesson planning and presentation; conducting confined andWater sessions;
legal responsibility and risk management; and marketing your PADI courses, to name a few.
The curriculum is varied and involves lectures; pool, class and ocean workshops;
discussions; and practice teaching presentations.
The goal of the IDC is to create a low-stress environment
in which you can learn to function as a PADI Instructor. This makes the IDC both a
challenging and enjoyable learning experience. The final evaluation of your knowledge and
skills comes later during the PADI Instructor Exam (IE). You qualify to attend an IE after
successful completion of an IDC.
All IDCs will be conducted by PADI Course Director, Lisa
Lazar, a highly experienced instructor trainer who has met strict educational proficiency
requirements.
The PADI Instructor Examination:
Objective validations of qualifications
The IE is a two-day program that evaluates your diving
knowledge and skills, as well as your ability to deliver teaching presentations in the
classroom, confined water andWater. Although the evaluation is pass/fail, if
necessary you do have opportunities to retake most initial presentations, if necessary.
PADI IEs are conducted by professional Instructor Examiners from PADI International, which
ensures that the evaluation process is objective, fair and consistent. IEs are available
in the local area and are scheduled frequently so that you may either immediately attend
one after successful completion of your IDC or postpone your IE to further study and
prepare.
